Record number of migrants were detained in the English Channel

Two groups of illegal migrants managed to land in the UK before being arrested.

Four small boats were intercepted while trying to cross the English Channel. 86 migrants illegally tried to get to the UK from France, the Press Association (PA) reported, citing the Home Office on Wednesday, September 11.

There were men, women, and possibly minors. It is also noted that the arrest of 86 migrants at a time is a record high.

It is indicated that two other groups of migrants managed to land on the beach before being arrested. The British Home Office announced that it is collaborating “at all levels” with the French authorities, opposing this “dangerous and illegal” phenomenon.
In August, British Home Secretary Prity Patel and her French counterpart Christoph Castaner agreed to step up joint efforts to reduce the number of crossings of the strait in small boats.

According to London, 65 migrants who previously illegally arrived in the UK by boat were deported to other European countries from January to the end of August.

In early June, more than seventy migrants were detained in the English Channel. At that time, it was a record number.
