Deputies of the National Assembly (Parliament) of Ingushetia elected by secret ballot the 60-year-old acting head of the region, Mahmud-Ali Kalimatov, as head of the republic.
27 out of 31 deputies voted for Kalimatov. One ballot was declared invalid.
“The People’s Assembly of the Republic of Ingushetia elected Kalimatov Mahmud-Ali Maksharipovich as the head of the Republic of Ingushetia,” said Batyr Khamkhoev, chairman of the counting commission, voicing the results of the secret ballot.
According to the law, Ingushetia does not conduct direct elections of the head, they are replaced by the procedure for electing the head of the republic as deputies of the regional parliament from among the candidates submitted by the president of the Russian Federation on the proposal of political parties.
In addition to Kalimatov, nominees of two parties took part in the elections – a deputy of the Nazran city council, chairman of the board of the regional branch of the Just Russia party Uruskhan Evloev and senior territorial specialist of Vympel-Communications PJSC, coordinator of the regional branch of the LDPR Magomed Zurabov.
