Police in Hong Kong used tear gas to disperse violent demonstrators who gathered on Sunday evening for an unauthorized protest in the vibrant shopping district of Causeway Bay. This is reported by local television.

The protesters tried to provoke unrest, arson and acts of vandalism. For security reasons, the local metro operator closed two stations in the city center – Central and Wan Chai.

Earlier in the afternoon, hundreds of anti-government demonstrators with American flags in their hands gathered in front of the US Consulate General in the city center. The protesters handed over to the US diplomats a petition urging the White House to support the protesters ’ demands and pass a special legislative act with the aim of exerting sanction pressure on the governments of the PRC and Hong Kong in order to ensure the observance of democratic rights and freedoms in this autonomous territory.
