Hurricane Dorian intensifies to category 3 Strength

Hurricane Dorian in the Atlantic Ocean, having stayed in the second category for about an hour, intestified to the category 3, – the US National Hurricane Center said. Wind speed increased to 185 kilometers per hour. The hurricane continues to move slowly from the Bahamas  to the north along the coast of Florida.

On Friday, Dorian reached the category 5. A number of US states have declared a state of emergency. The danger of a hurricane is not only in the strength of the wind, but  in the amount of precipitation that can lead to flooding as well. Therefore, there is a danger when a hurricane enters land. According to forecasts, “Dorian” will continue to move along the Atlantic coast of the United States, but there is a risk of rains and floods on Thursday and Friday in the states of North and South Carolina.

On Sunday, a hurricane hit the Bahamas. According to the New York Times five people were killed in the Bahamas due to the hurricane. Also, the hurricane caused devastating damage to the infrastructure of the island of Abaco, located in the northern part of the Bahamas. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) reported that 13,000 houses were destroyed or damaged in the Bahamas.
