Bangladesh’s authorities ordered all operators to turn off mobile services for a million Rohingya Muslim refugees living in camps in the southeast of the country.

The operators were instructed to restrict the Rohingya people from access to mobile communications for security reasons and because of the interests of maintaining public order. It is reported in Bangladesh government’s directive .

Thus, the operator companies have seven days to submit reports to the authorities on the actions they have taken .Local police believe refugees have “abused” access to mobile communications for many months to commit criminal acts, such as drug trafficking from neighboring Myanmar of the amount of hundreds of millions of dollars.

International human rights defenders accuse the Myanmar military of persecuting and killing innocent, mass rape, and rohingya genocide.
