Germany: SPD holds final rally ahead of regional elections

Germany’s Social Democratic Party (SPD) gathered supporters in Oranienburg on Friday for their final rally ahead of the regional elections in Brandenburg and Saxony.

Federal Minister of Finance and Vice Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that to ensure “stability” and that people “can rely on the solidarity of other,” citizens should check the SPD box when they vote on Sunday.

“What Brandenburg does not need is right extremists, right populists and nationalists. These people have nothing to do with our country and they only ever harmed our country,” said Minister President of Brandenburg Dietmar Woidke.

Scholz and Woidke said themselves “confident” that they could win and that their focus was talking “about the country’s problems” and how they “want to solve them.”
