Yemen: UAE-backed forces regain control of Aden

The UAE-backed forces supporting the Southern Transitional Council (STC) regained control of the Yemeni port city of Aden on Thursday, according to reports. Footage from Wednesday shows STC fighters active in the area.

The reports of recapture came after a Yemeni government forces minister said on Wednesday that the government had retaken ‘full’ control of the city from the STC.

“In the name of God, we are here on 28 of August. We will pursue [those] who call themselves legitimate [forces], who have no legitimacy. We will win here, the Transitional Council. We die for the Transitional Council to live. May victory be for the South,” said a fighter backing STC.

The UAE-backed STC proclaimed the takeover of Aden, the capital of the Saudi-backed government of President Abd-Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, almost three weeks ago.
