A meeting of representatives of the Foreign Ministries of South Korea and Japan took place in Seoul on Thursday, August 29. It is reported by Yonhap News with the reference to representatives of the ministry.

According to the source, the meeting between the Director of the Department of Asia and Oceania of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan Kenji Kanasugi and the Head of the Department of the Asia-Pacific Region of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Korea Kim Jong Han took place in the building of the Ministry.

The meeting of the representatives of Tokyo and Seoul took place 9 days later, after the one of foreign ministers in Beijing on August 20.

The details of the meeting are not disclosed, but it is likely that Kim Jong Han pointed to illegal actions by Japan regarding the removal of the country from the “white list”, and that Kenji Kanasugi insisted on the extension of the agreement on the general security of military information (GSOMIA).

Earlier, on August 27, Prime Minister Lee Nak Yeon announced that South Korea could reconsider its decision concerning exchange of intelligence if economic pressure from Japan is cancelled.

It is also known that Kenji Kanasugi met with the Deputy Foreign Minister of South Korea for Peace and Security on the Korean Peninsula Lee Do Hoon after meeting with Kim Jong Khan.
