USA: Six police officers shot in ongoing standoff in Philadelphia

Six police officers have been shot and others received non-gunshot injuries in an ongoing standoff with a gunman in North Philadelphia on Wednesday.

Footage shows several police vehicles racing to the scene with sirens on.

Philadelphia policeman Sgt. Eric Gripp stated on Twitter that those shot were being treated at hospitals with non-life threatening injures, and that additional officers were also receiving treatment with non-gunshot injuries.

The situation is ongoing and Gripp reported that officers are attempting to communicate with the shooter, “imploring him to surrender and avoid further injuries.”

The shooting reportedly began when authorities attempted to serve a warrant.
