USA: Philadelphia police standoff ends as suspect surrenders

A suspect involved in a standoff with police at a house in North Philadelphia, has surrendered on Wednesday night, after six police officers were shot and others injured. Philadelphia policeman Sgt. Eric Gripp stated on Twitter that those shot were being treated at hospitals with non-life threatening injures, and that additional officers were also receiving treatment with non-gunshot injuries. A seventh office was reportedly killed in a car crash while responding to the incident. The shooting reportedly began when authorities attempted to serve a warrant at a home in Philadelphia’s Nicetown-Tiago district and the suspect opened fire on the SWAT team van.
