Migrant crisis: Germany remains the most common destination country

The number of people applying for asylum in the EU for the first time increased in the first half of the year. Not surprisingly that Germany remains the most desirable destination country. This can be seen from the data provided by the European Asylum Support Office EASO.

Thus, in 2019, about 337,000 migrants applied for asylum. Compared to the same period last year, indicators increased by about ten percent.

By the end of July, the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) received 100,233 applications for asylum in Germany, including 86,350 initial applications, mainly from Syria, Iraq, Nigeria, Afghanistan and Turkey.

By the end of July, BAMF had already decided on more than 119,000 applications. 24 percent received refugee status, 10 percent received protection from subsidies, and 3.3 percent received protection from deportation.
