Pakistan: Protesters decry India’s decision to strip Kashmir of special status

Protesters took to the streets of Lahore in Pakistan on Monday after India announced it’s abolishing a special status for the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Demonstrators carried banners and chanted slogans condemning the decision. A presidential decree revoked Article 370 of India’s constitution which guaranteed substantial autonomy for the territory. The document banned Indians from outside the state from taking up local government jobs, buying land and permanently settling there. Critics accuse the government of trying to change the Kashmir’s demographics ending its status as the only Muslim-majority state in India. Pakistan which fought two wars against India over the disputed territory, strongly condemned the decision.
