Protesters took to the streets of the Sudanese capital Khartoum on Thursday, to condemn the killings of several schoolchildren during a protest in El-Obeid earlier this week. Protesters carried Sudanese flags and chanted “Blood for blood” and “We will never forgive.” Similar protests also took place in other cities across Sudan, including El-Obeid. Some demonstrators continued to call on the ruling military council to hand over power to a civilian-led government. On Monday, at least four high-school students and one adult were shot dead while protesting against bread and fuel shortages in North Kordofan’s El-Obeid, according to reports which cite officials. The incident has sparked massive demonstrations, with some accusing military and paramilitary forces of opening fire on schoolchildren. Nine members of a paramilitary group have been detained in connection with the killings, a Transitional Military Council (TMC) spokesperson was reported as saying.
