Belgium: NATO supports US withdrawal from INF – Stoltenberg

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the allied countries agree with the United States’ decision to withdraw from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty with Russia, during a press conference in the Belgian capital of Brussels on Friday, following the statement of the Russian Foreign Ministry about the termination of the Treaty. The INF Treaty was signed in 1987 by the US and USSR. The US and Russia has recently accused each other of repeated violation of the treaty. The Russian Foreign Ministry published a statement on Friday saying that “at the initiative of the American side, the Treaty between the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics and the United States of America on the elimination of their intermediate-range and shorter-range missiles, signed in Washington on December 8, 1987, was terminated.”
