UK: MPs back bid to prevent next PM from suspending Parliament

MPs have passed a motion to prevent the UK’s next prime minister from suspending Parliament to force through a no-deal Brexit, in London on Thursday.

The House of Commons backed the bid 315 to 274 to prevent a no-deal Brexit.

Speaker of the House of Commons John Bercow announced the final voting result, saying, “The Ayes to the right 315, the Nays to the left 274. So the Ayes have it.”

The front-runner to become the country’s next prime minister Boris Johnson has pledged to lead the UK out of the EU on October 31, with or without a deal.
