Bulgaria: Multinational NATO drills ‘Platinum Lion 2019’ continue in Novo Selo

Army units from several countries took part in the 11th day of the ‘Platinum Lion 2019’ multinational military drills in the Bulgarian town of Novo Selo on Thursday.

The drills were held at the Novo Selo Training Area – one of the largest military bases in Bulgaria and one of the four joint US-Bulgarian military facilities in the Balkan country.

During the drills, helicopters and tanks opened fire on targets and soldiers took part in simulated military scenarios, where they practiced several active shooter scenarios.

“The drills could be described in two words, first is compatibility and the second is training. Today you saw the compatibility between five nations, joined with their colleagues from the US,” said Bulgarian Deputy Commander of Land Forces Brigadier General Valeri Tsolov.

Albania, Bulgaria, Georgia, Romania, Serbia, Moldova and US forces took part in this year’s drills set to conclude on Friday.

The aim of the drills is to improve better interaction during operations between NATO members and country-partners.
