US President Donald Trump attacked Rep. Ilhan Omar and three other Democratic congresswomen during a 2020 campaign rally in Greensville, North Carolina, on Wednesday, while a crowd chanted “send her back” in reference to Omar.
“Omar blamed the United States for the crisis in Venezuela. I mean think of that one. And she looks down with contempt on the hard working Americans saying that ignorance is pervasive in many parts of this country,” Trump said. “And obviously and importantly, Omar has a history of launching vicious anti-Semitic screeds,” the US President added as a crowd of his supporters started chanting “send her back! send her back!”
Trump also touched down on the House defeating an attempt to impeach him on Wednesday. “This vote was so big, I have to thank many of the Democrats, I mean that was amazing,” Trump said. The 332-95 vote caused division in the Democrats, with 95 — slightly more than 40 percent of the Democratic caucus – voting against impeachment.
The US President sparked controversy over the weekend with a series of tweets seemingly aimed at new Democratic congresswomen Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib, Ayanna Pressley and Ilhan Omar that were widely condemned as racist. He wrote that the representatives – three of whom were born in the US and all American citizens – should “go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came.”
