Europe should contribute to the settlement of the armed conflict in the Donbas, but the anti-Russian sanctions do not contribute to that at all.
Such a statement was made by the head of the government of Saxony, Michael Krechmer, in a comment for Deutsche Presse-Agentur.
“It is necessary to put an end to the war in Ukraine. To do this, we must do everything possible, but the sanctions have never helped us in this, ”the politician stresses, noting that Saxony puts on close cooperation with Russia.
At the same time, he highly appreciated the fact that Germany is actively working on the implementation of the Nord Stream 2 project. No less important, he said, is the fact that the Russian delegation returned powers to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. “The next measure should be exactly the lifting of sanctions,” he stated.
Michael Krechmer has long been a supporter of the abolition of restrictive measures against the Russian Federation. His statements have always caused a resonance in German society, and many politicians from the eastern regions of Germany share the position of Kretschmer.
