British Prime Minister Theresa May said she is still disappointed at her failure to finalize a Brexit deal as she prepares to step down.
In an interview with BBC, she called Brexit negotiations “incredibly frustrating,” saying too many members of Parliament had become “entrenched” in their positions and unwilling to compromise.
“I actually think there’s quite a difference between Parliament and the public,” May said. “I think the public have got a very simple view. A decision was taken — just get on with it — and they are not in that same polarized way that Parliament has been about this issue.”
During May’s three years as PM, several of her proposals for the UK’s exit from the European Union failed to pass.
Members of her Conservative Party are voting on her successor, with the winner scheduled to be announced July 23. Boris Johnson is the favorite in the race.
May declined to endorse a candidate.
