A rescue ship operated by the German humanitarian group Sea-Eye picked up 44 migrants, including children and women, from a wooden boat off the coast of Libya in the Mediterranean Sea on Monday.
The Alan Kurdi rescue ship reportedly saved the migrants in coordination with Maltese officials who were willing to take the migrants in.
The migrants who reportedly included four women and three children, one as young as 15 months old, hailed from Syria, Libya, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Guinea.
Last week the Alan Kurdi rescued 65 people who were also taken in by Malta.
