Albania: Thousands rally at anti-govt demonstrations in Tirana

Thousands took to the streets of Tirana on Monday to protest against Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, as anti-government demonstrations continued since protests began in February.

People can be seen flooding the central streets of the Albanian capital, chanting slogans and waving flags. Some brought a makeshift ‘ballot box’ where opposition demonstrators could ‘vote,’ in an apparent gesture to mock the recent election held on June 30th.

Opposition leader and Democratic Party of Albania leader Lulzim Basha was also present and addressed the crowds in attendance.

Albania has been in political crisis since opposition politicians walked out of parliament in February demanding prime minister Rama resign. Continuous protests in Tirana are threatening the country’s plans to begin accession talks with the EU.
