China Will Insist US Lifts Huawei Ban and Drops Tariffs as Part of Trade Truce

China plans to present President Donald Trump with a list of demands on the U.S. before any trade can be reached, the Wall Street Journal reported Thursday morning.

Those demands include the U.S. lifting its ban on selling U.S. technology to Huawei and dropping the tariffs already imposed, the Wall Street Journal reported.

President Xi Jinping plans to present these demands to President Donald Trump when the two leaders meet in Osaka, Japan.

The demands make it less likely that the U.S. and China will reach a deal in the near-term. Indeed, the Chinese terms are likely to be viewed as so onerous that they may prevent the two sides from formally re-opening trade talks. U.S. officials believe that the already imposed tariffs should remain in place even if a trade deal is reached.
