Georgian opposition stages impromptu anti-Russian demonstration

In the capital of Georgia, a spontaneous anti-Russian rally is being held outside the parliament building: the reason for this was the fact that today’s meeting of the 26th General Session of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of Orthodoxy in Tbilisi was opened by the representative of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Sergei Gavrilov from the rostrum of the Georgian parliament provoking an angry reaction from the Georgian opposition.

Members of “European Georgia” and “United National Movement” disrupted a session of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of Orthodoxy, after which the members of the Russian delegation returned to the Radisson Hotel on First Republic Square in the center of Tbilisi.

However, the breakdown of the session was not enough: the protesters for about three hours continued the rally at the hotel building, demanding an apology from the Russian deputy, as well as his deportation from the country.

The Russian delegation decided to leave Georgia and the deputies of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, thanks to the protection of the criminal and patrol police, were able to leave the hotel. This was not enough for the protesters who poured water on the Russian delegates.

According to the Georgian opposition television channel Rustavi 2, the Russian delegates boarded a minibus that went to Tbilisi airport, from where they will fly to Moscow on the next flight.

The protesters, in turn, went to the building of the Georgian parliament to join the rally demanding the resignation of the chairman of the Georgian parliament, Irakli Kobakhidze. There, a few hours ago, activists under anti-Russian cries burned photos of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
