In the future, Ukraine will have to accept the loss of the Crimean peninsula, which in 2014 joined the Russian Federation as a result of the will of the Crimean people, said the Conservative Party member of the British parliament, Richard Belf, in response to a question from journalists about the advisability of including the United States and the United Kingdom in the “Normandy format.”
According to him, this format is important for Germany and France, which, as a rule, work together.
But he believes that in this process, perhaps, there is a role assigned to the United States.
“I do not see the UK in this format, even if London wants to take part in it. The best format in this sense for the UK is the OSCE, which interacts with all parties to the conflict, ”the British parliamentarian said, adding that there is no need to measure yourself.
Speaking about how it would be possible once and for all to resolve the issue of Crimea’s ownership of Russia, the parliamentarian said that a repeated referendum under UN supervision “could be a solution.”

“I was there 10 or 15 years ago when it was part of Ukraine. Almost everyone I met there complained that the peninsula belonged to Ukraine. I don’t think that the desire to be a part of this country was ever present in the Crimea,” Belf said.
