Mogherini reaffirms EU’s call for ‘maximum restraint’ in Persian Gulf

EU Foreign Affairs Chief Federica Mogherini said that the EU called for the “maximum restraint” in the Persian Gulf region, following last week’s incident in the Gulf of Oman, while speaking to the press ahead of the bloc foreign ministers’ monthly meeting in Luxembourg on Monday.

“Already in the last days we have called for the maximum restraint [in the Persian Gulf] and I think that’s of particular wisdom have been the words of the secretary-general of the United Nations, [Antonio] Guterres when he says that the world cannot afford another crisis, especially in an area like that”, she argued.

The EU top foreign policy chief also said the crisis in Sudan will also top Monday’s meeting agenda.

The ministers will also meet the Foreign Minister of Jordan to discuss bilateral relations between the middle eastern country and the EU, Mogherini confirmed.
