UK: Boris Johnson leaves house amid media stakeout as Tory leadership race kicks off

Conservative Party leadership candidate, Boris Johnson, left his London home on Monday without giving any statements to the press regarding his campaign.

The former foreign secretary and Leave supporter is one of the favourites to replace UK Prime Minister Theresa May as both the leader of her party and of the country.

Nominations for the tory leadership close at 17:00 local time (16:00 GMT), with each candidate requiring the support of at least eight fellow MPs to get on the ballot.

MPs will then vote on the candidates with rounds of voting continuing until there are only two left, this final pair will then be presented to the entire Conservative party membership for a deciding vote.

The first round of voting is scheduled to be held on Thursday June 13.
