Security forces have seized nearly 1.6 tons of illicit methylamphetamine in a major operation in Australia, Australian Border Forces (ABF) said in a statement on Friday.
The drugs were shipped from Thailand to a harbor in Melbourne, the coastal capital of the southeastern Australian state of Victoria.
In total, 1.596 tons of methylamphetamine and 37 kg of heroin were detected as hidden inside stereo speakers, the statement said.
It was one of the biggest ever onshore drug operations in Australia’s history, according to ABF.
Australian police launched an investigation after the operation.
