Police arrest man following bomb scare at New Zealand air base

In April, New Zealand’s terror threat level has been downgraded to medium following a terror attack in Christchurch that left 50 people killed and dozens injured.

An unidentified man has been arrested following an emergency operation at Whenuapai Air Force Base in New Zealand, NZ Herald reported Wednesday citing a police spokeswoman.

The police have described the incident as a “bomb scare”.

Emergency Service vehicles and armed police have been deployed to the scene, while roads leading to the base remain cordoned off.

A source has told the outlet that “there was a police helicopter, and multiple emergency vehicles.”

“Apparently someone had driven a vehicle into a hangar and was making threats about explosives”, the source added.
