Italy: Hundreds of rescued migrants disembark navy ship in Genoa

Hundreds of migrants rescued off the coast of Libya disembarked the Italian Navy Ship Cigala Fulgosi in Genoa. Footage filmed on Sunday shows migrants waiting on board while security officers carried out checks.

The military vessel, which is the first of its kind to bring migrants to a northern Italian port, reportedly proceeded to do so after following a decision taken by Italian Interior Minister Matteo Salvini.

Among the migrants were 23 minors, some of them unaccompanied, and they were the first group to disembark alongside pregnant women.

Genoa Civil Protection Manager Sergio Gambino confirmed that the migrants would go through a medical screening process and those who were in need of medical attention would be taken to hospital.
