Albania: Protesters clash with police at anti-govt rally in Tirana

Police used tear gas and water cannon against demonstrators at an anti-government rally in Tirana on Sunday. Thousands of people took to the streets to demand the resignation of Albania’s prime minister Edi Rama.

Some of protesters used fireworks against police. Albania’s Interior Ministry says 10 officers and three demonstrators were injured in the clashes.

Albania has been in political crisis since opposition politicians walked out of parliament in February demanding prime minister Rama resign. Weekly protests in Tirana are threatening the country’s plans to begin accession talks with the EU.
