Chinese Ministry of Commerce spokesperson Gao Feng said, concerning the tariffs imposed by the United States, that the “trade bullying will ultimately harm the US itself,” during a press conference in Beijing on Thursday.
Amid an ongoing trade war between the two countries, Gao stated that “the United States frequently imposes restrictions on Chinese companies and uses state power to suppress them,” and added that Beijing hopes the US “will remain rational and correct their mistake to avoid an escalation of the situation.”
He added that “sometimes it is said that they are not ready to reach an agreement. I have to say that this makes people doubt the sincerity of the United States.”
“China will never give in on major issues of principle,” continued Gao.
During a state visit in Japan on May 27, American President Donald Trump had said that the US is “not ready to make a deal” with China.
