Mexico: Group uses crowd-funding campaign to build ‘private’ wall

Residents of the state of New Mexico in the United States have used funds raised on a ‘GoFundMe’ page to construct their own wall, as footage filmed on the Mexican side of the border in Ciudad Juarez on Monday shows.

Inspired by the long-promised wall of US President Donald Trump, the group erected 800 metres of steel bars along privately held land where the US states of New Mexico and Texas meet.

According to data from the US Border Patrol, over 96,000 people were detained in the vicinity of El Paso, the Texan city across the border from Cuidad Juarez.
