Patrick Poppel: Ibiza scandal proves the absence of Russian intervention

The scandal erupted between the two FPÖ politicians Heinz Christian Strache and Johann Gudenus shook Austria and Europe.

Currently, a lot of raw materials remain, but, despite all the assumptions, this political novel about the oligarch’s “fake niece” only proves that there could not have been any serious influence of the Russian side on FPÖ.

“True oligarchs rest in the Crimea, not in Ibiza,” says Patrick Poppel from the Suvorov Institute.

This case clearly shows that the idea of Russian influence on Austrian politics is a fictitious threat from the editors of the media.

If the FPÖ had such a strong connection with certain circles in Russia, top politicians would not have met on vacation with the supposed contacts.

We remind you that in 2017 the German editions of the Süddeutsche Zeitung and Spiegel published secret videos of Strache meeting with the “rich Russian woman” in Ibiza. They are represented by the leader of the Austrian Freedom Party (FPÖ), Heinz-Christian Strache, his associate Johann Gudenus, his wife, an unknown man and woman, who speak mainly Russian and English. The woman was introduced by Austrian politicians as Alyona Makarova, the oligarch’s niece from Putin’s entourage, who allegedly wanted to invest several hundred million euros of unknown origin in Austria. At the same time, as it turned out, the villa was filled with hidden cameras, and the Russian woman herself turned out to be the “bait” to bring Strakh to clear water.
