US President Donald Trump awarded Sumo Grand Champion Asanoyama Hideki a custom created ‘President’s Cup’ after watching wrestlers compete at Tokyo’s Ryogoku Kokugikan Stadium on Sunday. Footage shows Trump handing the massive 70 pound (32 kilo), eagle topped, trophy to Hideki. “In honour of your outstanding achievement as sumo grand champion, I hereby award you the President’s Cup,” said the president, reading the date as “May 26, Reiwa 1,” specifying the name of the new Japanese imperial era that began with the ascension of Japan’s new Emperor Naruhito on May 1. Trump is in Japan to discuss a trade deal with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, while his trade negotiations with China and nuclear talk with North Korea both seem to have reached an impasse.
