A 14th consecutive week of protests was held in the Algerian capital against the country’s interim leadership on Friday. Tens of thousands of people marched through central Algiers demanding the departure of the ruling elite.
“The Algerian people are united and we will boycott the elections on July, 4. We all share one idea: All B’s [Bensalah, Bedoui, Bouchareb] must leave,” said Salim, one of the protesters.
Protests began in February as the long-time leader Abdelaziz Bouteflika was due to announce he would run for a fifth term in office. He was forced to resign on April, 2. A week later, parliament appointed Abdelkader Bensalah the interim president.
