Balkan expert proposed to invigorate Kosovo with a “nuclear scenario” for the sake of resolving the crisis

Today, the search for a compromise on resolving the Kosovo issue is useless, since, despite all the aspirations of the Serbian side, the West does not offer concrete approaches.

Srdja Trifkovic, a professor of political science at the University of Banja Luka, said this on Friday, May 24, in a commentary to the EADaily publication.

He drew attention to the fact that the Albanians took up provocations, and Europe, meanwhile, was marked by “the worst possible signals.” In this regard, he recalled the recent meeting in Berlin, at which the Serbian President Alexander Vucic was “given the role of a pariah”.

“I am not in favor of the “frozen conflict” term. However, it is reckless to sell shares of a company when their market price has fallen. Serbian “shares” in the Western market are just listed low, which means that insisting on the need for a settlement when the other side does not offer anything is not worth it, ”he says.

According to the expert, the best solution would be to preserve the status quo “until better times”, which could come very soon if Vucic used the “trumps” available against Serbia from Serbia. So, he proposes to block the “geopolitical corridor”, which through Serbia goes to Europe. Deprived of it, the quasi-state would be forced to try their luck in the Italian direction, or lay a long way through Montenegro with Croatia.

“This“ nuclear ”scenario is still in Belgrade’s arsenal, and its existence should at least be recalled, because its implementation would have meant that Kosovo would cease to function,” Trifkovic emphasizes.

At the same time, he expressed confidence that even the threats of opponents of such a scenario regarding the new military intervention are exaggerated. On the other hand, Belgrade would have a chance to get preferences from the Albanian side, he stated.
