Switzerland: Small Group delegations arrive for revived Syria talks

Representatives of the so-called Small Group arrived at the Palais des Nation, the UN’s Geneva office, on Friday to discuss the international efforts to revive the political process in Syria with the UN’s special envoy Geir Pedersen.

US Special Representative for Syria Engagement James Jeffrey was among the envoys who arrived for the talks.

The delegations are expected discuss the latest developments in the ongoing Syrian conflict, with particular emphasis on rising violence in northwest Syria, the need for unhindered humanitarian assistance throughout the country, and further support for UN efforts to foster a Geneva-based political process in accordance with UNSCR 2254.

The Small Group comprises of the UK, Egypt, France, Germany, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and the US.

Friday’s session will be followed by a meeting later in May, where Pedersen will host the Astana process guarantors – Russia, Turkey and Iran – in Geneva.
