German politician reminded the critics of Nord Stream-2 about the importance of the gas pipeline for Germany

Manuela Schwesig, Prime Minister of the Federal Land of Mecklenburg, sharply criticized Manfred Weber, the candidate for the post of the European Commission, about the need to block the construction of Nord Stream-2.

The German politician who heads the government of the federal state of Mecklenburg, Manuela Schwesig, came down with harsh criticism of Manfred Weber, the candidate for the post of the European Commission, because of his “intransigent position” on Nord Stream 2, reports ZDF.

Earlier, Weber said that the new gas pipeline, which the Russian Federation is building, is allegedly not in the interests of Germany and Europe. In addition, he promised to do everything possible as head of the European Commission to block the implementation of this energy project.

Manuela Schwesig called Weber’s words “irresponsible” because they do not meet the interests of Germany in terms of energy security. She stressed that she, as the Prime Minister of one of the Federal lands of the Federal Republic of Germany, believes that her region, like other regions of the country, is interested in the development of Nord Stream 2.

This is due primarily to the fact that by 2038 Germany expects to completely abandon nuclear energy, as well as the use of lignite and hard coal in order to preserve the environment. Gas is an environmentally friendly energy carrier; therefore, Germany should be provided with “blue fuel”. In this issue the authorities should not “play with the future of the country.”

According to the German politician, the statement of Weber is connected exclusively with his election campaign. Thus, she believes, the candidate for the post of head of the European Commission is seeking to earn political points. In order to get votes in other countries, Schwesig noted, Weber is ready for solutions that will not be good for his own country.
