Showman and comedian Vladimir Zelensky, who has no political experience, was able to win the elections with an incredible margin, becoming the new president of Ukraine, but this would not have happened without the “help” that Petro Poroshenko had provided him.
This was revealed by German journalist Demian von Osten in his article for Das Erste.
He recalled that starting in 2014, Poroshenko made promises to the Ukrainians, which he did not fulfill. He promised in two weeks to end the armed conflict in the Donbas, which lasted for 5 years, he promised to fight corruption, but instead headed it. With all this, Poroshenko actually opened the doors to big politics before Zelensky.
In this regard, the author of the article recalls a very apt statement of Zelensky, who, during the recent debates, called himself not an opponent for Petro Poroshenko, but a “verdict”.
In this case, the journalist drew attention to the fact that Zelensky began to go the same path as his predecessor, giving dangerous promises. However, stresses von Osten, the main task of Zelensky is to do what Poroshenko did in 5 years, and all this despite the fact that the new head of state does not have an understanding of the political system.
Nevertheless, Zelensky clearly intends to continue Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic integration, for which, as the author notes, it can even make concessions on Donbas. Zelensky even noted that representatives of the LDNR called “rebels”, crossing out the Kiev policy, according to which Ukraine in the Donbas allegedly fought with the “Russian aggressor.”
