Indonesia lifts tsunami alert after earthquake off Sulawesi

Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has lifted the tsunami alert issued after a 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of the country’s island of Sulawesi.

However, Indonesia’s National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) has advised the coastal communities in Morowali district to be on alert for possible aftershocks.

The epicentre of the earthquake, which occurred at 6.40 pm (western Indonesia time), was 85 km southwest of Southeast Sulawesi.
