The US continues to put pressure on Venezuelan diplomats working at the country’s mission to the United Nations, preventing them from travelling farther than 40 kilometers from the mission and blocking the mission’s accounts, Venezuelan Permanent Representative to the UN Samuel Moncada told on Wednesday.
“The United States is violating the host’s obligations,” he said. “All our accounts have been blocked, we cannot pay salaries to our employees,” the ambassador added. “We cannot travel farther than 25 miles from the mission. It means, I cannot go to Washington, for instance. I can request a permission but the US authorities are not providing it,” Moncada noted.
He also said that the US was threatening to impose sanctions on banks that would work with Venezuelan diplomats.
At the same time, Moncada pointed out that the United Nations Secretariat continued to give credentials to the mission’s officials so that they could participate in various events, refusing to accredit Juan Guaido’s representatives.
