The UK and the EU agreed a ‘flexible extension’ of Brexit until 31 October, European Council President Donald Tusk announced on Thursday.
The agreement was reached after five hours of talks at an emergency summit in Brussels.
Tusk said “the course of action will be entirely in the UK’s hands”, meaning it could still ratify the withdrawal agreement, rethink its strategy or revoke Article 50 and cancel Brexit.
The EU was split over the length of the delay and by law they had to reach a unanimous decision.
