At least 5 people were killed and 16 others were injured after militants shelled the city of Massyaf in Syria’s Hama province on Sunday, Syrian State media reports.
Rockets allegedly launched from the area of Hama and Idlib struck the Massyaf National Hospital and the Children Department along with other sites in the city.
An employee at the hospital who was now being treated himself explained what happened to him, saying: “while I was heading back to the hospital and [as I reached] at the lobby entrance -that was around the end of my work day- all of a sudden, I heard an explosion, I fell on the ground. I heard ‘take him to the emergency section’ then I was unconscious.”
Another injured man said that while he was leaving the hospital a “missile” exploded amongst people there. “I looked around and I saw people lying on the ground. First Aid rushed, and I checked my hand to see what happened to it and it was a mass of flesh and bones mixed together because of the second missile,” he said.
According to local sources, the hospital was hit in the early hours with five rocket shells, causing injuries among the medical staff and damages to the building.
The Syrian Arab Army has reportedly fired back retaliatory strikes targeting the areas where the attack was launched from.
