An estimated 400 FC PAOK supporters and Greek Nationalists gathered in front of the Alexander the Great statue in Thessaloniki on Sunday, to protest against the name deal between Greece and North Macedonia.
Protesters marched through the downtown area and waved Greek flags.
“We thank PAOK supporters club and all PAOK fans who were present here in front of Alexander the Great Statue in Thessaloniki to show to the government that Prespes Agreement is a betrayal. Macedonia is one and is Greek,” said Panagiotis, one of the protesters.
After a decades-long dispute with its northern neighbour, Greece’s Parliament narrowly passed a bill in January, approving Macedonia’s name change from the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia to the Republic of North Macedonia, to distinguish it from the Greek territory with the same name.
