Venezuela: Guaido calls on supporters to join ‘Operation Freedom’ protests

Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido called on supporters to mobilise for nation-wide protests on April 6, known as ‘Operation Freedom’, during a speech delivered to the residents of the El Paraiso neighbourhood, in Caracas, on Friday.

Guaido criticised the government of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, saying that “they can’t bring electricity because they stole the money, they can’t bring water because they have no idea and have not invested anything to improve the quality of life of the Venezuelan.”

The self-proclaimed interim president of Venezuela made the comments as the country faces repeated blackouts and water shortages.

“It is now clear that the protest is necessary. Does someone doubt that? It is very clear that we arrived here because we went to the streets and built a majority to rebel against the injustice. We will not get used to this,” said Guaido.

‘Operation Freedom’ is scheduled to take place on Saturday, when thousands of opposition followers are expected to march through the Venezuelan capital to demand the reinstatement of electricity and water supplies.
