Belgium: March in Brussels after parliament blocks climate law

Hundreds took to the streets of Brussels on Sunday to demand action on climate change after the parliament blocked a new climate law.

Students led the march with banners calling for a climate strike. Protesters wearing yellow vests also took to the streets of the Belgian capital.

Minor skirmishes erupted between protesters and police forces. No arrests were reported.

On March 29, the Federal Parliament voted down an amendment that would allow the passage of a proposed climate law. The change would have forced the Belgian government to adhere to commitments made under the United Nations Framework on Climate Change.
