United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Nikolay Mladenov called upon Israeli and Palestinian authorities to exercise restraint after an escalation of tensions and a missile exchange in the past few days. Mladenov was speaking at the United Nations Security Council in New York City on Tuesday.
Mladenov described the alleged Gaza rockets targeting Tel Aviv as “an act of provocation,” and said that a full military confrontation is in nobody’s interest. “A new conflict will be devastating for the Palestinian people. It will have consequences for Israelis who live in the vicinity of the Gaza perimeter and is likely to have regional repercussions,” he said.
