The Cuban Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned the attempt by the US Government to recognized the Syrian occupied Golan as part of Israel.
‘It is a serious and flagrant violation of the UN Charter, the International Law and UN Security Council resolutions, particularly No. 497 of 1981,’ it warns in a statement.
This new maneuver by Washington violates the legitimate interests of the Syrian people and of the Arab and Islamic nations. It will have serious consequences for the stability and security in the Middle East and will increase tensions even more in an already volatile region.
Cuba has called on the Security Council to fulfill its duty in keeping peace and international security, and adopt the required decisions to stop this unilateral US action of supporting Israel in its attempts to annex the Syrian occupied territory of the Golan Heights.
The Foreign Ministry has stressed Cuba will continue to support Damascus’ demand to recover the Golan Heights, grabbed by Israel in 1967, and demand once again the full and unconditional withdrawal of Israel from Syrian Golan and from all Arab occupied territories.
A few days ago, President Trump said it was about time the US recognized such sovereignty, a statement that immediately generated international rejection, including from European allies.
