Mexico: Barbed wire stolen from US border protects Mexican homes

Many homes and businesses in Mexico’s Tijuana were spotted surrounded by large amounts of barbed wire reportedly stolen from the US border, as footage filmed on Wednesday shows.

According to reports citing Tijuana police, the barbed wire installed by the US State Department is often stolen and sold on the black market in Mexico.

As it is difficult to prove where the barbed wire comes from, the Tijuana Police only makes arrest when people are caught in the act of stealing the barbed wire from the border.

“Unfortunately, when this happens, they are very fast and in many cases by the time we get there, there is no one left,” said Tijuana Secretary of Public Security Marco Antonio Sotomayor.
