The German Foreign Ministry is worried about the United States considering sanctions against International Criminal Court workers in case of a formal investigation into the situation in Afghanistan, a spokesperson said during a weekly press conference in Berlin on Monday.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Adebahr said, “We acknowledge with great regret and worries, that the USA is considering implementing visa limitations for decision makers of the International Criminal Court in the case that the court starts formal investigations into the situation in Afghanistan regarding US citizens.”
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the United States would revoke or deny visas to ICC members involved in investigations of US citizens, and was prepared to take further sanctions, on Friday.
Government Spokesperson Steffen Seibert also addressed the Brexit situation, saying Germany would not be against an extension of Article 50 if requested by the United Kingdom.
